Identity continuity

Why CognitiveX separates durable identity from replaceable models.

Persistent memory is the load-bearing abstraction in CognitiveX. A model can draft a response, but iCog owns the continuity: what the user decided, what changed, which facts are foundational, and which memories should be corrected or forgotten.

Why this matters

Most AI products bind identity to a chat transcript or a single model vendor. That works until the transcript is pruned, the user switches tools, or an agent starts a new session with no context. CognitiveX treats memory as the stable layer above those replaceable execution surfaces.

Grounding rules

  • Literal facts should come from recalled memory, not inference.
  • Past-session memories are historical evidence, not current speech.
  • Stale facts should be updated with provenance rather than contradicted in prompts.
  • Agent decisions, bugs fixed, and integration constraints should be stored as episodic or procedural memory.

Memory hygiene

Use recall to find candidate memories, then update or forget by ID. This keeps the system from accumulating bad context and gives future agents a cleaner operating history.
